I agree. I prepare all my conference talks and lectures with the
latex-beamer package. Only acroread does justice to the beautiful latex
typesetting at the moment (CoolType font rendering). Inferior line-art
smoothing and slower rendering (slide transitions) are two additional
problems which keep me from using kpdf or evince for my presentations at
the moment. However, I noticed great improvements in both kpdf and
evince lately, therefore I hope that I can ditch acroread soon.
