Still, unlike almost every other tarball, I found this one very easy to
install in Sarge.

After unpacking:

    tar xfz AdobeReader_enu-7.0.5-1.i386.tar.gz

run the INSTALL script in the newly created AdobeReader directory:

    cd AdobeReader
    ./INSTALL

and create a link from somewhere in $PATH to where you have put
adobereader7/bin/acroread during install.
For example:

    cd /usr/local/bin
    ln -s <path_to>/adobereader7/bin/acroread acroread
    chmod +x acroread
