I have these lines in my /etc/modules :

  ide-cd
  psmouse
  nvidia

The dmesg contains the following lines relating to nvidia:

nvidia: module license 'NVIDIA' taints kernel.
ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LNKE] enabled at IRQ 11
ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:02:00.0[A] -> Link [LNKE] -> GSI 11 (level, low) -> IRQ 11
NVRM: loading NVIDIA Linux x86 NVIDIA Kernel Module 1.0-8178 Wed Dec 14 16:22:51 PST 2005

What does your dmesg say about the same? Do you get any error there?
Please check it.
