I once had a severe case of 'SO WHY WON'T THE F**KING THING WORK?' Not
only did I cry, I broke my favorite coffee mug when I pounded so hard on
my desk that it fell off.

The fix in my case was to install gs-esp (cups' particular version of
ghostscript). It's only recommended by cupsys, and, since I was
downloading over a modem at the time, I skipped it and suffered.
