Not having touched it explains why its not working, and why you *can* 
run ntpdate as they both use the same network socket numbers.

Add the names or ip's of some 5 or 6 known servers to the ntp.conf 
file and restart it.  You may have to play with the authorization in 
that file too.

Oh, and to the person that suggested they use their DNS servers, if 
you are on verizon, forget it.  VZ doesn't run anything they cannot 
charge for.
