How to enable emacs-style shortcuts in Gnome?

I read in the Firefox help-document: "If you have enabled Emacs-style
text editing shortcuts in GNOME, they will also work in Firefox." But
I could not find out how to enable emacs-style text editing shortcuts
browsing through the Gnome desktop documentation.

Maybe it would be easier if the Gnome-docs were also available in
plain text format. Then the trusted "grep" woud be the fastest way to
find it.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Regards
Johann
