Thanks Dani. At my user log in, I typed:

debian$ echo $USER
debian$ yuja

debian$ groups
debian$ yuja

Then I typed at root:

root$ adduser $USER audio
root$ you're done

Then I rebooted the machine and logged in again. The same error message 
still came. Anything I am missing here?
