You were lucky.
It may not always bite. I got by with it for a while. But when it bit, that
hurt.
I recommend making a floppy with a sector list dump from fdisk. Don't use
cfdisk for this; if you need to recreate your partition table you won't be
able to use the numbers it gives you (they're off by 63 sectors).
