I understand it quite well. However, doing what you opponent does
hardly shows that you find their behaviour unacceptable. It is
simply a power struggle.
And in fact, you aren't really boycotting them. I propose that
getting your mother to switch and telling AOL that is why you are
changing will have more impact. That's a boycott.
They won't notice that buried in the mail log of server 27535 is a
note that your domain FAILED to deliver mail sent to you. And of
course, if they want to open a dialogue with you, you won't accept
that message either. What you are doing is like a five year old sitting
in the corner with his/her hands over his/her ears, yelling, "Nyah,
nyah, nyah, I can't hear you".
