  The odd thing was that I could push large files from other hosts on
  the net into my host at home. Because of this, my virtual host
  provider thought that the problem was more at her end so she bumped
  the MTU to 1492 and that worked! Thanks for the suggestion.

  By the way, she now offers Debian virtual hosts for $30/month. Pretty
  cheap, stable, Internet presence with big pipes. Awesome service--we
  engaged in an IRC chat session tonight to figure out this problem. See
