just wonadering -- since I think I've been having a similar problem with freeamp -- is changing the permissions on /dev/cdrom good enough, or do the permissions on the original device (in my case, hdd) also have to be changed? The permisisons on the /dev/cdrom I have are:

lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root            3 Jul  3 08:58 /dev/cdrom -> hdd

while those on /dev/hdd are:

brw-rw----    1 root     disk      22,  64 Mar 14 16:51 /dev/hdd

is it somehow dangerous to change the perms for a hdd disk?

thanks,
matt
