Hi,

for most audio cd players you have to change the permissions on your
/dev/cdrom so that it is readable to everyone.  Have you done 'chmod a+r
/dev/cdrom'?)  That made it work for me.  Also, IIRC the xmms-cdread
plugin is for people w/out the audio cable connecting their cd-rom drive
and sound card (so it reads the data off the cd and then plays it as a
wav or something instead of just playing the cd normally.
