Well put David.  Slashdot just posted an article [1] about a guy who
returned to Windows after 3 1/2 years of Linux [2].  Everything I would
have recommended, this guy tried, but it wasn't enough for him.

Aside from my thoughts about his situation, I would think that the
Debian community might learn something about being nice to new users,
not matter how easy their question is to fix.  Debian is challenging to
new/uninformed users, which is why documentation exists.  Maybe
encouraging new users to read before leaping would be good.  Also, being
nice to new users does a lot for the good of the community.  Some user
could get so frustrated and quit, then post his comments on why he/she
left, and then the news sees and proclaims Linux not ready for the
desktop.
