USB stuff was backported to recent 2.2 kernels, but I don't know of an
installer that includes the patches.  I also don't know how well it
works because I didn't play with USB until I had a 2.4 kernel.  In
addition to having a 2.4 kernel, you'll need the USB support included
in it (it's configurable ya know :-)).  Hence all the uncertainty.
