Ben,

at first, thank you for your reply.
-a new one means, this is my third IBM-PC. The first is MCA only, the second PCI only
but this third machine, causing this problem is MCA AND PCI (8 slots MCA, 2 slots PCI)

-The PC was used as a windows/novell server (for nearly 5 years), no MCA slots used. The PCI slots were
used by a token ring 16/4 card and this raid controller.

-I removed all OSes and the token ring card.

The PC will use only linux (no garbage on the PC!).
There are NO MCA slots occupied by cards. The new (3C509C) ethernet card
uses the PCI-slot that was used by the token ring card.
During the linux installation it complaines that PCI can't allocate the PCI address.

I am wondering if IBM uses the "PCI-adresses" for MCA, but in that case: what will happen
if one machine has MCA AND PCI, like this one!!!!

TIA again.
Frank.
