I tried this before, it didn?t help.

When I try to login at my NT4 station i find the following in log.smbd:
--- cut loglevel:5---
[2001/05/06 19:43:59, 4] passdb/pampass.c:proc_pam_start(160)

---- cut ----

So I think now, there is something wrong with my PAM authentification.
I have a /etc/pam.d/samba (shouldn?t it deleted when samba 2.2.0 was
installed?) and I had not the time to get to know how PAM internaly works, I
think i have something wrong in /etc/pam.d/samba or /etc/pam.conf.
RH7 uses different modules than I have for authentification so I don?t know
exactly why I don?t have these in my uptodate debian unstable.

I reviewed the sources and I don?t see any reason why this PAM is not working,
but I found another user having this problem too...

winbind seems not available for debian in the binary distibution and does
anyone know how samba 2.2.0-final 2 was compiled? --with-PAM or --no-pam
switch?

Normaly samba 2.2.0 should generate in private/ a file named
"domain".SID, this is not working, even I don?t know where this privat
directory in the debian distribution is. Normaly it should be in
/usr/*/samba/private where the smbpasswd file is stored, but this is in
/etc/samba in debian...
The samba 2.2.0-final2 package genarates only a WORKSTATION.PID, maybe the
is something realy wrong in this package...

I?m currently thinking about compiling samba on my own, throwing out
everything which doesn?t work like this PAM authentification and hopefully
this will solve my problems. But I would prefer to use the binary distribution ...
