Interesting. I had the same problem as Carlos but was able to solve it
because I do have a dotted quad name for one of the ISPs I use.

However, I've just looked at my /etc/exim.conf, and I see that exim
itself has set up the following:

*acampbell.cix.co.uk $lookup{$1}lsearch{etc/email-addresses}\
                      {$value}fail} bcfF
