XF86Setup error

 Thanks for taking the time to read this. I am trying to install X   
Windows on my freshly installed Debian 1.3
Machine (486dx, 16MBram, 2.5G HD, Generic VGA card, serial mouse). I   
believe I have all required files and
most of the suggested files installed. When I execute the setup I   
immediately get the error " cant open database file
/usr/X11R6/bin/X11/Cards"...................ah, the joys of learning a   
new system..........any help would cause a blessing to be said in your   
name (as opposed to some of the #$@!!! that has been said already)
