No estuve atento a la tarde porque estaba trabajando, pero podés ver que
apt-cache search fat

te devuelve:

# apt-cache search fat|grep -i ms-dos
dosfstools - Utilities to create and check MS-DOS FAT filesystems
syslinux - Bootloader for Linux/i386 using MS-DOS floppies

Si le das:

apt-get install dosfstools

te instala fsck.vfat y fsck.msdos

me parece que necesitás algo de eso, :)
