I don't think it is desirable to have one package provide fonts and
another package register them, be it defoma or anything else.

OK.

Me: not yet. I said the highest priority for me was to get the lmodern
fonts usable with TeX-related programs. I _will_ investigate defoma
later (probably in less than 2 months) but until now, I've only read
parts of its documentation (to know how it would deal with the TeX
encodings such as T1, and to make sure it handles PostScript Type 1
fonts).
