Re: Annoying problem with X on Sun Ultra 5

Good news, I found the cause of the problem: since I only have one
monitor I was stretching a lot the monitor cable. I had it completely
straight, from the monitor to the Ultra, and cables on Sony monitors
seem to be pretty long. As soon as I moved the computer closer to the
monitor, and the cable wasn't straight anymore (it has now a few
turns) the problem dissapeared!

Yeah, weird EMI shit. I should have known. I guess that since this
is my first contact with Linux on an architecture different than
i386 I was looking in the wrong places for possible causes.

Damn it! I wasted about 4 hours figuring out what was wrong. But
I guess it could have been worse. Oh well...

Anyway, thanks for the help Ben. Oh, by the way, thanks for
the boot floppies: I used the latest boot floppy I found at
auric.d.o/~bcollins/ to boot (from the network) this box and
get Debian on it.

I am amazed at how smooth things went. I had installed an i386 box
a couple of days before and the Sparc installation was exactly the
same. It's great to be able to run your favorite OS on any platform
and not notice any difference at all.

Cheers!

Eloy.-
