I have vauge memories of seeing problems like this discussed on
comp.sys.sun.hardware, although I think the outage was temporary on
solaris.  I think it may be a hardware bug that has a driver
workaround in later versions of solaris.  (Which explains why only
some sytem models have it -- the later hardware was fixed as well.)
