There would be mainly two differences from the current situation:
1. A user of the package can have acces to the patched source and build
   the fixed package automaticaly, this is a way to obtain the fixed
   package without waiting for a maintainer.
2. When a maintainer will want to release the package, things will be
   easier.

Another point is that the same system can be used for other packages
where the maintainers want to have direct help from experts in the area
of the package. I'm pretty sure each maintainer in such a situation have
his own way to work with the non-DD experts (like for perl packages),
let's say that would be an already available method.
