To be honest I don't see the problem. How does saying Sven is not critical 
to the project imply that his contributions have been minimal?
Sven has made very valuable and big contributions to d-i. Losing him will 
hurt development, mainly for powerpc, for a while. However, I don't 
understand the jump you seem to be making from there to the assumption 
that that automatically makes him irreplaceable.

Ideally yes. And looking at d-i as a whole I expect it will. However, that 
does not necessarily mean that all subareas in the project will improve.

No. I'm not willing to speculate on that, nor could I quantify it.
The main improvement will be in the happiness and thus motivation and 
hopefully productivity of key members of the project, including myself.
