Yeah, that's basically how Debian's sparc port worked. It used the
V9 instruction set which is normally 64 bits but with 32 bit pointers.

However, that port was now dropped since upstream is now more focussing
on sparc64. Oracle's new reference implementation "Linux for SPARC"
is fully 64 bits.
