If it is a vanilla kernel then it uses the old swsusp, not swsusp2. But
since the swsusp in the kernel has been improved recently, it is not
really old.

At the moment I don't use any patch, because swsusp also works fine for
me, it has only the small advantage, that I don't need to apply the patch.
swsusp2 works for me just without any difference.
