If you set LD_PRELOAD to load /usr/lib/libesddsp.so and
/usr/lib/libesd.so before running an app that uses /dev/dsp but that
dosen't know about ESD, you can make the program send its output through
ESD. You could use a wrapper script like this:

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libesddsp.so:/usr/lib/libesd.so
exec /path/to/some/program $*
