Do you think that it'd be worth explaining your approach in our
Packaging and Git Guide?

Even if we don't encourage it by default, maybe it makes more
sense in some cases and therefore it'd be nice to have it
documented in our guide.

If you have some rough notes, I can convert them to POD and add
them to gid.pod.
