Sorry, but even with the above, no, I don't understand why.
If you are repairing a broken OS, there's a lot of chances
that you wont have even network connectivity. If you are
doing that in such a live CD for repairing a broken OS or
MBR, then betting on network access is really not something
you want to do, IMHO!
