|A quick test with kernel 2.6.8-1 revealed that writing a large file to a
|floppy is very fast (and the subsequent unmount slow) if the floppy is
|async-mounted, while writing the same file is slow (and the subsequent
|unmount fast) if the floppy is sync-mounted. This is the case with both
|the "vfat" and the "msdos" filesystems. So at least there seems to be
|some difference between a sync-mount and an async-mount.

well I've just find it in 'man mount'
It says : (sorry it is translated from french, so probably inexact)
"for exemple sync is only effective with ext2, ext3 and ufs"
