When I have to build my own .orig.tar.gz archives (only when there's no
real upstream .tar.gz, in my case), I always have an 'orig' target in
debian/rules. It's then a matter of 'fakeroot debian/rules orig' -
fakeroot because orig tends to depend on clean.
