Hello everybody,

indeed, our URL surface is too fragmented, and that may explain as well
why none of our many addresses have a good page rank.

I think that we need to focus on one URL, and think well about it for a
durability of, say ten years.

There are many possible choices. Note that different debian.org domain often
mean a differently hosted machine, and this is a big work overhead. This said,
a URL rewriting within the Debian website might also be possible.

In any case, I think that it would be a good time for our pages to leave
the /devel directory, as our pages are not only to give instructions
to developers, and as it makes the URL more difficult to remember.

Here are possible replacements for http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-med/ that
I would think of:

  http://www.debian.org/blends/debian-med/
  http://www.debian.org/debian-med/
  http://blends.debian.org/debian-med/
  http://blends.debian.org/med/
  http://debian-med.debian.org/
  http://med.debian.org/
http://ti.ny/md (just joking; these URL obsfucations are an insult to the WWW)
http://med.deb/ (alternatively, we could lobby the IETF to get a TLD for Debian).

My gut feeling is that we will have a better chance to change our URL if what
we ask can be used by other blends as well.

For the wiki and Alioth front pages, I think that they are very
developer-oriented, and it is good, because it means that they are not
redundant with the Debian website. I would not try to integrate in a single
URL scheme, but rather to accentuate their specialisation.

The tasks pages on Alioth, on the other hand, have a broad audience. But since
they are leaf pages, I think that it is fine to link from www.debian.org to
them.

Have a nice day,
