Well, I do not know checkinstall, but I had some conversation with
them as well and kept in mind that they are doing "something else"
than policy compliant packages. The only thing I remember is that
"I was not convinced by their method" - but this does not bring us
any bit foreward in cooperation.

Did you contact them recently?

No, I did not and I tried to give some reasons in my last mail.
IMHO it is better to show some interest by jost *doing* something
that might be attractive for them and start the contact once this
is done - or at leats there is some proof that we are honestly
interested. I just learned that this is a better entry point
into a discussion.

If yes, can you ask them
if they have source packages or not?

I would do so if we *really* start to build a package that is
available in their repository and we want to use it. Only
asking out of thin air sounds quite academic - feel free to prove
me wrong.

I had a look to their categories, and apparently the same package can be
in more than one. In the end, they look more like Debtags to me. It has
been a long time that I wonder if it will soon be necessary to split
med-bio, but I am still undecided.

You are perfectly right - DebTags seems like the tool of choice.
I'm also really undecided about a split - I just was gathering
opinions.

Kind regards

       Andreas.
