Re: [Fwd: Re: Problem with license of msv-xsdlib]

Hello,

I sent the below email already a while ago, but didn't receive any answer.
Can someone tell me what's wrong? Did I miss some important point of netiquette, or FAQ to read before asking stupid questions?

Thanks, Eric

Hi,

our package msv-xsdlib [1] has been refused even from non-free due to
license issues. Hence I've contacted the upstream developer (from Sun) and
got the answer below.

As I understand from different discussions that the CDDL license in
critical in regard to "freeness", I have some questions:
1. will a CDDL license allow us to put the package at least into non-free?
2. will a CDDL license allow us to put the package into main/contrib?
3. if answers to 1 and 2 are negative, any idea what might be an alternative?

Background of question 3 is that someone on the list might have an idea
which other license could be acceptable to Sun (and I might suggest it to
the developer).

Any other inputs/recommendations are of course welcome in these difficult
times!

Thanks a lot,
Eric

Hello Kohsuke,

a while ago, and you probably don't remember it, I asked you about the
license of the xsdlib library (see
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=296643).

It took some time but Arnaud Vandyck and myself tried to get the package
into Debian, but failed due to license issues.
Could you please have a look at the attached emails, and tell me if
you're able to fix the problems flagged by the Debian team? We would really appreciate your support, as your library is necessary to us (e.g.
 for FreeMind, http://freemind.sf.net/).

I'll see if can change the license to CDDL. Will let you know once that's
done.
