Ah, so right you are! But in the case of that particular thread, I felt
it prudent to leave it in it's entirety.
To the original poster: getting sound to work actually *is* important on
a personal laptop. I'm betting you think so too. Using Debian (or any of
it's derivatives) also is important for a whole host of reasons: Freedom
and non-propriety being the primary ones. (yes, I'm aware of the X.org
issue in ubuntu, but it's a minor compromise I'm willing to make)
