Well, this is indeed the aim of the kernel team, and is indeed the thinking of
Simon Horman, told repeteadly on irc and maybe onlist, but i guess you will
prefer that he confirms this.

Now, if additional external folk has time to invest in newer 2.4.x kernels,
the more power for them, but the aim is indeed to preferably get those drivers
and subarch-ports ported before the etch release.

If they can't find the effort to get the support done in 2.6 by now (2.6 has
been out since 2/3 years), i doubt the support is very serious in the first
place.

Cool. But as said, it needs to be done in the common kernel infrastructure, as
for linux-2.4, but you know that already. I will contribute powerpc/nubus
support there, as they are in the not-yet-supported-in-2.6 category, but then
i doubt the patches will apply cleanly without work to anything beyond 2.4.27
anyway, so ...
