Ok, it finds the initrd all right, but fails to mount the root filesystem and
then pivot_root into it. Classical error. So, this would be a bug in
initrd-tools. You do create the initrd on the same machine as you do run it,
so it should work.

Can you check with giving the root device explicitly with : -r root when
creating the initrd ? Also, maybe a modified mkinitrd which outputs verbose
stuff about the found root would help to find out what the problem is.

Also, if the same problems happens in d-i when you don't specifify
root=/dev/ram0, and you don't have root=/dev/sda2 as default command line,
then it is also a bug in d-i.

Yeah, from your serial log output below, i agree with you.

Yeah, and you probably broke all other boxes out there who don't mirror *your*
PReP box setup, not to speak the unexplored repercussion on pmac/chrp boxes,
now that i have fixed the chrp default command line handling.

Yeah. but i don't think this is the right solution. The right thing is to fix
mkinitrd and not to break everyones capacity of booting without root=
argument.

Hehe. I also got a a 8200/120 (without mouse, keyboard or vga adapter though,
and will be getting an UMAX box from markos at the Oldenbourg meeting, so we
may make some progress at the miboot problem.

Friendly,
