Bug#270326: kernel-image-2.6.8-powerpc: bad commandline default: root=/dev/sda2
Package: kernel-image-2.6.8-powerpc
Version: 2.6.8-3
Severity: important
The default kernel commandline in the PReP kernel includes
"root=/dev/sda2". Please remove this.
The Linux kernel dynamically selects sda or hda as the boot device based
on the type of system booting (e.g. PowerSeries do not have onboard
SCSI). Further, partition 2 is not a safe default: many systems have a
fixed-size boot partition, followed by a fixed-size swap partition,
followed by the rest of the disk as the root partition. Therefore the
kernel defaults to partition 3 as root. This policy has been in the
kernel for quite some time with no complaints.
