Actually, i don't understand why you need that root= line, since you need a
initrd anyway, and the mkinitrd initrd has code to detect the root filesystem
automatically, and use that for booting, without any need to use a default
command line or a root= argument.

I wonder if you adding root=/dev/sda2 doesn't break this behavior on existing
boxes, especially now that i fixed the default command line for chrp in the
kenrel-source-2.6.8.

Jens, i would greatly appreciate if you could investigate a bit (and explain)
what is going on on that box of yours, and why the "inteligent defaults" and
the magic root detection of the initrd doesn't work for you.
