pkg-java team, subversion, git (was: Bug#540756: solr-common: please move packaging to GIT)

Dear all,

I've received a request (see below) to move the packaging of solr to a
git repository. Solr is currently maintained in the pkg-java subversion
repository. In my opinion, this is as is should be: pkg-java is a team
effort, and the results of that effort are maintained in the pkg-java
svn. On the other hand, I don't care much about tools, and if it is
significantly easier for others to contribute to the solr packaging if
it's in git (why not bzr, or hg, or <insert hip tool of the week>,
btw?), I might consider moving to a _pkg-java_ git.

Any thoughts from the team?
