When I boot, I get:
Partition check (DOS partitions):
sd0: sd0s1 sd0s2 sd0s3 sd0s4 <sd0s5 sd0s6 sd0s7>
hd0: hd0s1 hd0s2 hd0s3 hd0s4
gnumach then detects my com ports and prompts me for the root device name
(ie: root device []?) Note that if you make a mistake and hit backspace,
you fuck yourself. So, do not make errors.
I type in sd0s5 and it starts booting as normal.
If this does not help, what version of the tarball / hurd package are you
using? There was a bug in old hurd packages (Jan 2000) where this would
happen (grub could read the ext2fs partition but the hurd could not).
