Try to get the slink e2fsprogs package, that contained the mke2fs 1.12
version. This always worked for me. I have now tried the woody mke2fs
and seems not to work properly with hurd :-(
If you are interested in the 1.12 version, I can send you the mke2fs
binary -private mail-.
