Hi all,

I'm just a happy debian user. I use testing with a mix of unstable
packages (sometimes experimental also). I have been impressed with the
quality of the debian distribution since I have started using it.

Some days ago I tried the experimental gnome2 packages. Aside an X
driver bug that put me in deep trouble, I also noted that all the
configurations I had weren't kept (I knew something awry could happen,
this was experimental stuff, so I'm not complaining at all). What I
also did notice is that some programs simply didn't work at all after
the transition (example : gnome1 applets).

I know I don't have an official voice here since I'm not a maintainer
(maybe one day, when I find something I can tackle), but here is my
plea : PLEASE OFFER THE CHOICE.

I don't ask for that choice to remain in debian when mostly everything
works, but just for a while, so users can choose to try gnome2, test
it, report bugs,... and so you can polish the transition with willing
users (of which I can be). That way, if the users find it too broken for
use, they can easily revert to gnome1. (which is a PITA if packages
have the same names).

Please bear in mind that you don"'t have to work on gnome1 packages
while gnome2 packages are also in unstable, but let them there for a
while.

Sorry, but they will.
