Re: Is FreeNX server an issue for Debian-Edu?

There is interest, and I have waited for the NX team to get the
packages into Debian. I believe they ran into a few problems with
code duplications, NX containing copies of X.org and openssh. It
turned out to be old copies with security isses, and this has not been
to easy to solve. See <URL:http://alioth.debian.org/projects/pkg-nx/>
for that teams work.

Hmm, last commit Sep 19, 2006 according to [1] and reasons for
this probably given in [2] makes me think that chances are very
low to get a working Debian package in a say two weeks time span
(and I have no time to work on this personally). This link [3]
is also interesting - but time consuming as well.

There is a few nx packages currently waiting in NEW now, btw.

I can not fins anything at [4]. Links?

The fuzz is apparently about the bandwidth usage, claimed to be a lot
better than vnc, for example. Have not seen any benchmarks.

Well, to my understanding VNC is something where you can observer
a session on a specific machine. I used NX as kind of a Terminalserver
for a set of Win clients. I could perfectly live with a slower
solution if it would just run stable.

Kind regards

         Andreas.
