Hi, Say I'm interrested in contributing in debian-edu and I'm looking for the version control system. This is my trail & error: http://www.nl.debian.org/devel scroll down to the bottom to get to http://wiki.debian.net/?DebianEdu click on DebianEduToPackage to http://wiki.debian.net/?DebianEduToPackage that lists only some packages to be packaged. Back to http://wiki.debian.net/?DebianEduToPackage for the link to http://www.skolelinux.org Being redirected to http://www.skolelinux.org/portal/ Clicked on contribute a.k.a. "get involved button" ( http://www.skolelinux.org/portal/contribute/ ) Link marked with "development" did bring me to http://www.skolelinux.org/portal/contribute/development/ where promising title Introduction An introduction for new developers ( http://www.skolelinux.org/portal/contribute/development/introduction ) And yes: CVS ACCESS The CVS primer http://www.skolelinux.org/portal/contribute/development/cvs_intro speaks about cvs.skolelinux.org Using viewCVS, I got old files ( http://cvs.skolelinux.no/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/skolelinux/src/samba-ldap/debian/ ) or tarballs ( http://cvs.skolelinux.no/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/skolelinux/src/samba-ldap/share/ ) but no recent version control system files. :-(( So I left that dead looking trail. However is it actually a death trail? Should it be marked as such? My next attempt was http://alioth.debian.org, and yes it has a "debian-edu" project. ( http://alioth.debian.org/projects/debian-edu/ ) Another mouse click did bring me to http://alioth.debian.org/scm/?group_id=30003 with a standard page that states to checkout 'modulename' <sarcastic>yeah, right</sarcastic> the f*^Wfantastic modulename. Browse the CVS repository ( http://cvs.alioth.debian.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi/?cvsroot=debian-edu ) revealed five possible modules: [DIR] debian-edu/ [DIR] debian-edu-install/ [DIR] html/ [DIR] security/ [DIR] src/ Starting with the first, debian-edu/ did bring me to http://cvs.alioth.debian.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi/debian-edu/src/debian-edu-install/debian/po/?cvsroot=debian-edu _without_ seeing any files. Has some one in this mailinglist to power to delete that _empty tree_ in the CVS repository? If yes: What are you waiting for? If no: Any proposals how people after me can avoid that time trap? Okay up to debian-edu-install/ ..... <sarcastic>Nice, only one emtpy directory</sarcastic> As none webdesigner, I skipped html/ security/README: | Debian-Edu/Skolelinux Security team's cvs-repository | ---------------------------------------------------- | | This repository shall contain all sources for the non-Woody packages | we are using in Debian-Edu/Skolelinux. And nothing else in the security/ directory. I suggest: take that _almost empty_ directory behind the barn and shoot it In src/ ( http://cvs.alioth.debian.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi/src/?cvsroot=debian-edu ) is [DIR] build/ [DIR] cronjobs/ [DIR] debian-edu/ [DIR] debian-edu-build/ [DIR] debian-edu-config/ [DIR] debian-edu-install/ [DIR] desktop-profiles/ [DIR] localization-config/ [DIR] xdebconfigurator/ My first pick was debian-edu/ with most recent file 4 months ago. xdebconfigurator was recently released, but xdebconfigurator/ freshed file is three _months_ old. That doesn't match http://packages.qa.debian.org/x/xdebconfigurator.html where an update packages is announce two _weeks_ ago. So I still didn't found debian-edu version control system repository. Which website update was missed (by me) ? Cheers Geert Stappers
