It somehow related to the target of these magazines. When they
compares distros, they try to reach user unfamiliar with GNU/Linux who
do not know which distro to pick.
Debian GNU/Linux is, generally, a good choice only for someone
familiar with GNU/Linux. So the problem is pretty fundamental: Debian
GNU/Linux doesn't fit for GNU/Linux beginners, partly because of the
installer, but not only.
