I've retracted this, and made some changes to the am-utils package,
following your rules explained in:

Subject: use and abuse of debconf
     From: Joey Hess <joeyh@debian.org>
     Date: Sun, 14 Jan 2001 23:58:33 -0800
     To: debian-devel@lists.debian.org

I would like to make things more automatic, and explained a way to
handle this in:

     From: Philippe Troin <phil@fifi.org>
Subject: Re: Problems with using debconf in init script...
     To: debian-devel@lists.debian.org
     Date: 29 Jan 2001 20:15:37 -0800

I would appreciate if you could comment on this.

Phil.
