I think I'll make some comments here since I seem to be the one responsible for starting this.. I was aware that the downside of doing a GIMP contest would be that the logo was not vector-based. I missed the rule that every submissions has to be entirely made using the GIMP, although I should probably have guessed that. However we have to realize that a GIMP contest is a good way to attract the attention from a lot of graphics-people; I don't know of any others means to assure a reasonably large number of submissions on a relatively short time-span. Furthermore the rule about only using the GIMP is not enforcable since you cannot check with which graphics program a picture was made (okay, this is not entirely true for all graphics formats; you could put in a comment in a gif-file for example). This means that it is possible to make a nice vector-based logo, convert that into a bitmap and submit that. I will ask the gimp contest-people if they would mind removing the obligation to use the GIMP exclusively, although I'm not too optimistic about getting a positive reaction on that. I also vaguely remember that there was a vector-plugin for the GIMP with which you could produce vector-graphics. Does anyone know more about that?
