It's called VERP (variable envelope return path), and it makes
possible to handle _ALL_ bounces automaticaly. It's very nice to
receive 0 bounces/year if you are a listadmin.

That isn't any abuse of the standards, they don't say what you have
to put in your envelope-sender-addresses.

Uh?? qmail don't breaks any standard with that. It only does in
8BITMIME stuff as sendmail and most MTAs do.
