LZW/GIF in The GIMP
Sigh.
The GIMP 0.99.10 comes with a plug-in, gif.c, that can handle the GIF
image format.
www.unisys.com has this to say:
"In all cases, a license or other written authorization is required
from Unisys for all use, sale or distribution of any software
(including so-called "freeware") and/or hardware providing LZW
conversion capability (for example, downloaded software used for
creating/displaying GIF images). In certain cases, no license fees may
be required, but this needs to be evidenced by a written agreement or
written statement from Unisys."
So I'm thinking I can just comment out the line that compiles gif.c in
the Makefile, and then things will be okay to distribute.
Is this correct? Am I up on my unisys patent crap? :)
Once I finish this last thing, I think I'll be able to release the
gimp packages.. (if anybody wants to test the ones with gif in them,
they're at http://zarf-mouse.aca.imsa.edu/~che/debian/gimp/).
